Tom,

There *are* legitimate reasons for having the shades --- especially if the
user is a newbie.  However, I understand your "paranoia".  I think you have
a contractual obligation to sell to the high bidder (or second highest
bidder, in this case, if he claims he wants it at that price) if you didn't
explicitly exclude bidders without positive feedback.

I'd try explaining to the guy that the bid is substantially high, suggest
that he wait for another auction and try again, and sell it to the highest
reasonable bidder.  If the whacko bidder won't go for that and insists on
buying at the bid price, you should insist on the use of a third-party
escrow service to avoid headaches.  You could cover the cost of the escrow
out of the excess bid, it sounds like.
