I agree the dongle on the GV card is a pain and would prefer it to
have a pop-out connector. Not to be an apologist for Global Village
or anything, but in IMHO... GV was there for the Mac when most, if
not all, modem manufacturers were leaving our platform in droves. For
years, Global Village was a Mac-only manufacturer and turned out the
best modems for the Mac. I have owned 4-5 over the years and still
use their v90 PCMCIA card and desktop Teleport. In addition, I have
found their GlobalFax software to be quite simply: The best. Yes,
there has been transition problems to Boca, who purchased the Global
Village modem part of their business. But recently, I had to ship an
older 33,600 Teleport to Boca and they are honouring an almost
five-year-old warranty and replacing this modem without charge.
Coupled with that, they have a toll free line to tech & customer
support.
I have no association with either company.
