Is it a US computer?
Alot of programs are restricted outside of the US.
Alot of college and networks are not allowing students or employees to
connect personally owned computers to the network. If you do some checking
you will find she can use her computer in the dorms or where ever she is
living but will not be allowed to connect to the campus network. Provided
she has a phone line she can use her computer on the www, send email and all
the other goodies. For classes that have or involve computers she can use
floppy's to save her data and then transfer to her own computer. If the
campus allows the student to use school owned computer to connect to the
internet she should be able to access all internet based email accounts like
Netscape.net hot mail etc.... Also consider theft, the computer could be
stolen if she is not careful. Get pictures, serial numbers, have the case
etched with either a number or name. (In Oz crime is not as bad as American
but still happens) But there is no reason she can't take it along for
personal use only or doing home work connecting to the www from a private
phone line.
