I spent about 5 months in Oz, mosty in various backpacker hostels - I had
my 2400 with me for most of that time... Basically if you keep the machine
inconspicuous ie. I had mine in a cardboard box lined with bubble wrap
instead of a normal computer bag, then it should be fine - and if there's a
lockable cupboard in the room then just leave it in there whenever it's
not being used... It might be a good idea to have some kind of external
backup, but other than there shouldn't be a problem...
The internet cafes are cheap though and I used them to check my mail
whenever I didn't want to set my powerbook up just for that - I was using
it mainly to keep my website up to date on my travels...
