I think everyone knows you were responding to me, but what you describe below: > If/when DW implements a system that breaks up "foo: bar" in > such a way so you could have a tags set that reads more like a > traditional list-with-a-parent-title... > > Actors > ???????????? > clint eastwood, james cagney, james coburn, robert redford > > Directors > ???????????? > clint eastwood, robert redford is what I suggested should happen; that typing foo:bar for a tag would create a parent:child relationship with foo:parent::bar:child. I'm not saying that the current functionality should never ever be improved upon. I'm saying, as someone who just got tired of waiting for a colour consensus and grabbed a bucket and painted a bikeshed--I just spent an entire weekend tagging 5 years' worth of posts on a fashion community--that I do not want to have to create hierarchical tags on a page with drop down menus using a mouse: yuck! I would like to be able to type foo:bar, foo:bling, foo:bum into the tags field, and have the system understand that bar, bling, and bum are subsets of foo, without my having to do control-click-whatever and play with drop-downs. I don't mind using a drop-down to convert foo to frak, if I need to do that. That's one operation. But I don't want to have to use the mouse to highlight bar, bling, bum and make them all foo. Particularly not if there are already several hundred tags and it's my job to bundle them, which...has in fact happened, on the LW OOC community. Because, OW. My wrist and elbow hurt just thinking about it. There's no way to do this for an existing journal without having to create a hierarchy, if you want hp:fic and sg1:fic to register as both subsets of fic you'd best do fic:hp and fic:sg1. Yes, you'll have to choose; do you want your stuff separated by fandoms, with the meta and fic and recs and reviews for each fandom together, or would you rather separate out fic, meta, recs and reviews and have subsets of each for each fandom? But those of us who don't want to or can't spend a lot of time mousing would be willing to trade that level of flexibility for not having to do it all on a javascript/drop-down/highlight-and-click screen. At least that is what I am hearing. (I moved a wiki to avoid excessive mouse use.) **************************************************************** Azalais Aranxta (~malfoy) ataniell93 on LiveJournal and Vox http://groups.yahoo.com/group/malfoymadness "I know the true world, and you know I do.
