Swapping around userids can cause problems if it's not done properly, so we're going to limit that to very special cases, so most probably not; sorry! > 2. Why does it think that account was created on 3/12 instead of 3/30? Almost certainly because someone whose account you'd commented on imported their LJ journal to Dreamwidth. If you'd commented on synecdochic.livejournal.com, for instance, I imported the contents of that journal over to Dreamwidth. As a step in the process, it creates OpenID accounts for anyone who'd commented there, so that their comments can continue to be owned and controlled by them. > 7. Yes, notification of the payment will be sent to the email address the person specified, and can then be used for any purpose. The person who received the payment can then do anything they want: give it away, use it, stick it in a drawer and ignore it. > 10. Okay, I don't quite give up. That random user sponsorship thing sounds nifty, but any other > suggestions? Also, how much paid time can you buy at once? Is 12 > months the max? No, you can "buy ahead" as much as you'd like. 12 months of paid time is the maximum item you can buy, but if you bought (say) two 12-month blocks of paid time for a specific account, it'll stack those on top of each other so you're actually buying 24 months of paid time. You just have to buy it in two 12-month increments. As for fallback options, hmm, let's see: * Buy paid time for your friends who already have DW accounts. We'll have a page that'll show you all of the people in your circle who have free accounts, or whose paid accounts are expiring soon, just like LJ does. * Buy paid time for friends who haven't moved to DW yet, to convince them to move over. "Here! I'll buy you 6 months of paid time, which will let you create the account and then try out the paid user features!" * Buy paid time for communities you participate in. Right now, there isn't much benefit to paying for a community account -- they actually have *fewer* features available to them than a paid personal account would -- but we'll be fixing that slowly and releasing more paid features for communities. * Buy paid time for the maintainers of communities you participate in. Community maintainers deserve love, too! * When we get it implemented, buy paid time for a random active user. It'll be a great way to make new friends *and* support the service. * When we get them implemented/created, buy virtual gifts for your friends, or buy Dreamwidth merchandise. I mean, come on, who wouldn't want a Dreamwidth t-shirt or a Dreamwidth code monkey stuffed animal? (This will take longer for us to get put into place, but we *will* have them.) * Eventually, you'll probably be able to pay a small amount and run a "classified ad" in a section we create for that purpose, so you'll be able to promote communities you belong to, promote (for instance) your crafting business or a new book you just sold/published, or just send birthday greetings to a friend. * If all else fails, buy a bottle of really good booze and send it to me and Mark. ;) (I jest, I jest...) --D -- Denise Paolucci [email protected] Dreamwidth Studios: Open Source, open expression, open operations.
