I believe that was my main point. My main experience with EDI projects has been my ability to gather the TP's requirements, ensure the business can meet these needs, and that our systems can meet the specified data requirements. In other words, I am quite familiar and confident in mastering the finer points of the underlying business transactions and communicating them with TP's.
With that being said, I was not allowed to gain EDI mapping/technical experience in my previous jobs. I offered to help and they said that was the EDI IT depts role and I would be overstepping my defined 'proper role' as an E-Commerce Business Analyst. It actually frustrated me as we were so overloaded with projects and only had 1 full time EDI mapper! If I could've learned some basics our backlog of projects would have diminished substantially. I'm currently not working and have been in the restaurant business for the past 3-4 years; assisting running a family business (no EDI). So...getting a job in EDI has been hard, let alone figuring out how to gain the additional experience of mapping that most EDI positions nowadays require. Thank you for your time and input.
