Leah,

The UNG in version 1-3 of the EDIFACT syntax (ISO 9735) is used to "group"
messages of the same type. It has not been used very much, if at all.

Because of the lack of "acceptance" by the user community, for version 4 of ISO
9735 the UNG functionality has been modified to reflect the user's requirement
and now is used to "group messages and/or packages, which may be used for
internal routing and which may contain one or more message types and/or
packages." The adoption rate for version 4 is rather slow, but of those that
have switch there is some usage of that new functionality, especially if they
want to link packages (binary data) to a single message.

Regards,

Klaus
