This is similar to what I expect to be doing, though I'm already mapping to a
SQL DB, so I can just create some other tables for this purpose.

I think what is causing me the most confusion is how to store this stuff in a
way that's easy to write out from the mapper, yet still easy to query via SQL,
since the pack slips are probably going to be created in Bartender. I can make
it work - I just have days when I suspect I'm making things twice as hard as
they need be, and I need a reality check. :)

I have this same 'packing slip for drop ship' requirement for one of my
clients, too.

What we did was figure out a little Jet (aka "Microsoft Access") database table
he could use as input to his "packing slip print"
routine (LabelView or BIQuery or some kind of report writer with which my
client is pretty handy ) and I just mapped that database
as an extra output from the input '850'. (The other ouputs being an ERP
interface file from which sales orders are imported and a
UPS manifesting table which is imported into Worldship).

Note this data is ONLY what is needed to "create packing slip." The actual
'turnaround' data used for the ASN was mapped into our
normal repository.

It works THERE.
