To me the essential difference between A and B keyers is explained by WB9KZY 
here:

 

The difference between mode A and B lies in what the keyer does when both 
paddles are released.  The mode A keyer completes the element being sent when 
the paddles are released.  The mode B keyer sends an additional element 
opposite to the one being sent when the paddles are released.

 

This is what causes difficulty if you try to switch modes. It takes a while to 
retrain the reflexes. And although I can get used to B mode, it seems to dangle 
those extra concluding elements no matter what. I find that extremely annoying. 
And there doesn't seem to be any redeeming value in B mode, I stick with A.
