Steve, Since your simulation showed that the feedpoint had a reactive (-J) component, it was not resonant half wave dipole. You should adjust the antenna length to bring the +/- j component of the impedance to zero. That is the condition of resonance for antennas.
You other points were quite valid based on the feedpoint impedance that you used (with the reactive component). 73, Don W3FPR Stephen W.
