Once I get my favorite sources, I want that thing out of the way.

For a user with many accounts, the full list of mailboxes may get unwieldy.
With a separate window you get other layout options. Eg. many columns. One for
each account + one for saved searches aka smart folders.

They are just a name for a set. They are only necessary inasmuch functions are
necessary in programming. (I guess you could copy and paste all that code over
and over again… gaarhhh)

I may even imagine doing it directly in the search bar. To get both letters
lists together (contrived example, assume all on same line):

init-list=list-id=~mail-init;
dev-list=list-id=~letters-dev;
init-list || dev-list

(To go on an unwarranted language tangent: the OR operation is equivalent to
set union. But people get confused. Maybe we should allow uppercase U too.)

All its folder, in a structure mapping the server's.
(maybe only the subscribed folders.)

Maybe, in addition, a couple of saved searches to exemplify them, like iTunes
ships with reasonable smart playlists.
(ATTN "'90s emails" NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA)
