Well, the 3400 wasn't a G3 machine. That was their top of the line 603e based PPC powerbook. Then, when the G3 started to take hold, in late 97, Apple pulled the 603 chip off the 3400, stuck on a G3 chip, and made the "3500" which they slapped the "PowerBook G3" label on. >There was also another 250 model in the Wall Street >I series. Check out <www.everymac.com>. So while it may be called that by >some, I disagree. There were a few other 250's all in the "PowerBook G3 Series" line. >However, I'd recommend your boss to sell the 3400 for what he can get and >buy a Wall Street Pismo and 512 MB RAM, *not less* and a new fast HD. >That or a second hand or new grey iBook instead. Unless he wants to spend >on a G4. Well, again, it isn't a 3400. When it first came out, some people refered to it as a "3500" because IIRC, that was Apple's originally intended ID for it. But they decided to drop all the confusing numbers when they went to the G3 line... and instead adopted the ever so easy to distinguish names of "PowerBook G3" for all G3 powerbooks (ok, now are your keys bronze colored or white... ok, what speed is it... um, ok, how about the screen size... um... ok, and what day of the week did you buy it, and what was the phase of the moon at the time... Ok, I know which model you have now!) >There will only be trouble trying to get decent performance from >the 3400, except maybe as a typewriter. In that case, why go OS X at all? Yikes! as a Typewriter?!? Um... ok, then I shouldn't tell you how I still use Mac Plus's for semi-regular use (and have a rack of SE's doing daily work). And we won't get into how I crack out my Apple II+ from time to time. No, the powerbook G3 my boss has already has some decent performance (hobbled compared to other G3 powerbooks thanks to sitting in a 3400 logic board with its slower bus speed, but its a nifty, albeit heavy as hell, powerbook anyway). And I don't want to go to OS X with it... my boss wants to. And sometimes you just can't tell your boss what to do (and if I could afford being unemployeed... I would have told today him EXACTLY what he could do!) -chris <http://www.mythtech.net> ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
