Just did: works perfectly.

I did that.


Other details:
- 320 MB RAM (max in iBook FW 366 last time I checked)
- 10 GB HD, 3 partitions (almost full, sometimes even completely full -- 
CE then fails to download mail and explains why)
- all Emailer-related files and folders allow full privileges to anybody 
(777) (this would probably not be the case if I had created them under OS 
X or in my user folder -- they existed before OS X and aren't on the X 
boot volume)
- 10.1.2/9.2.2 (French), Emailer 2.0Fv1 (French)
- same test using Emailer 2.0Fv3 (French unofficial based on US 2.0v3 
with translated ressources), same result: no problem
- same test with a small attachment (base64 encoding): no problem
