Hi All, For what it is worth, I have just moved to a G5 (from my trusty G3/300 beige) and upgraded to 10.2.8. Like Chris, I am running a minimum of extensions (apple ones apart from usb overdrive and spell catcher). Emailer is my only classic app.
I have been experiencing repeated screen freezes in emailer. Hard to pin down why exactly, but seems to create problems when shifting windows around on the screen, doing mailouts from Filemaker (running under OS X) and when trying to switch from emailer to an OS X app. It is extremely annoying as the old OS 9 setup was superbly stable. I can usually get out of these freezes without losing any info by hitting cmd-ctl and the start-up button on the G5. After experiencing about five of these freezes this afternoon, I am ready to look at an OS X mail client. I thought I would never say that, but as I can't boot into OS 9 on this machine, OS X is my present and future. Had a quick look at Mailsmith 2 and it looked pretty good. It imported all my folders and mail from emailer in a few minutes without any problem (these G5s are ridiculously fast). Pity it won't work with Filemaker. A similar import test with Mail was less successful - it choked after about 2 folders and dumped everything else into the In folder. Very useful! Anyway, maybe that person was right who said to hold off on the 10.2.8 update (but I didn't use emailer much under 10.2.7 that came with the machine). Any advice welcomed and I suppose I will move straight on to Panther when it arrives because this 10.2.8 really doesn't seem to like classic. regards Larry ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
