Anyone have any idea on whom to contact at AOL to find out if they changed something?
AOL changed something several years ago, namely stopped supporting the Emailer gateway. Frankly I'm amazed you can still connect at all much less are unable to download attachments.
You can call them, but you aren't going to find anyone there that has any clue what you are talking about since Emailer is the one and old program that ever had a gateway to talk directly to their mail system and as a result, no one at AOL has any idea the gateway exists (at least no one you will ever be able to talk to).
My understanding is, AOL supports IMAP for use with a 3rd party mail client, so you can always get your AOL email with Mail.app or any number of other modern mail clients that speak the IMAP protocol.
