Well said Gene.  Sometimes we take much for granted.   I often kick myself 
for not building a machine
much earlier in my life.

For the benefit of those just getting started with EMC, how about we all 
post some
links to pics (or video) showing what can be achived with a bit of work and 
patience?

I'll start with this recent project..

This is how a reproduction luger grip looks after it comes out of my EMC 
router.
The significant part of this is the rough crosshatching that  follows the 
surface.

Ultimately the grip will be checkered by hand to 16 lines per inch.  However 
that CNC crosshatching
forms a starting point that greatly simplifies the manual checkering that 
comes later.  Unfortunately, it is not practical
to cut the checkering at the full resolution on the machine.  You just can't 
achieve the proper finish with a tiny spining bit as
you would with a checkering file.

I actually hand ground a carbide blank to make the bit to cut those lines. I 
also had to write special software to optimize the
tool paths to cut the lines.
