You have to find out what values to use, based on the documentation for 
your motor drivers. The parameters are all explained in the 
documentation (you can use "man stepgen" in a terminal to see the 
manpage, look at one of the PDF files in the menu, or browse 
documentation on the linuxcnc.org website).

These motor drivers must be using direct phase drive signals, or there 
would be no way for the motor power to vary based on step length. 
(unless the design is really really bad) In modern drives, there is a 
separation of the logic input (steps or quadrature) from the motor 
output (power transistors). The input step signals just tell the driver 
to go to the next output state, and that state is maintained until 
another step signal (a request to change state) is received. If your 
drives need the step signals to be active for as long as the coils need 
to be powered, then you will need to manually edit config files - 
there's no getting around that.
