That mills Z axis is best redesigned from the ground up. Having the drive
screw behind the post is a terrible idea as it binds the z gibs badly. I
gave up, modified the head by rotating it 90 degrees ccw on the spindle, and
that left room to put the drive screw in front of the post. With a 425 motor
on the Z, I went from a max pressure or under 10 lbs on a drill bit, to 155
lbs on a drill bit.

To see how I did it, maybe you can do better yet, at:

Obviously I have also replaced the table and base with the larger versions
from LittleMachineShop.com, so I have about a 5y,10.5x,12z envelope now.

I also added a pmdx-106 spindle motor interface and moved the motor
controller from the head into a project box with the pmdx-106. That keeps
the flying grease from attempts to lube the head gears from wrecking the
electronics. The fuse holder in particular will fall apart in about a year.
My head still has the original gears though.:)

I threw money at that, and have a 4 axis xylotex setup with mixed motors( 2
kits, the first was a 3 axis). They work well.

As you can see, I haven't gotten around to the enclosure stage yet.

Yes, mucho fun. And impresses the heck outta the neighborhood frogs.
