Gene:

Before I embarrass myself by offering up suggestions that are completely 
off the mark (which I may end up doing anyway!), can you be more clear 
about the X-client and X-server machines you are using. Remember, the 
remote machine running emc2 is the X-client and the local machine 
running your keyboard and display is the X-server.

Maybe I'm just being thickheaded, but when you talk about the cards and 
drivers you have used, it sounds as if you are talking about the 
X-client. Presumably it is the X-server that isn't providing the service 
requested by AXIS, n'est-ce pas?

So, how about a thumbnail sketch of both machines and software versions?
