Ok, this is absurd. I've been through two different parallel cards on two different machines and none of them work.
Thank you guys for all your help, but I'm too frustrated to continue fighting this battle. All I can think is that if Microsoft solved this problem in the 90's surely Ubuntu can solve it 20 years later. </rant> Is there anyone in the Seattle area that can help me with this? I'll bring the machine(s) and beer and promise not to rant :-) Thanks, DougM On Fri, Aug 19, 2011 at 2:38 AM, andy pugh <[email protected]> wrote: > On 19 August 2011 02:48, doug metzler <[email protected]> wrote: > >> If I did put the commas in the string I got a Device or Resource Busy error >> >> halcmd: loadrt hal_parport cfg="0x378,0xa400" >> insmod: error inserting >> '/usr/realtime-2.6.32-122-rtai/modules/emc2/hal_parport.ko': -1 Device >> or resource busy >> <stdin>:17: exit value: 1 >> <stdin>:17: insmod failed, returned -1 > > That could mean that the parport is busy, having been claimed by lp or > cups or something. > > lsmod should show you if lp is loaded. > > -- > atp > "Torque wrenches are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Get a FREE DOWNLOAD! and learn more about uberSVN rich system, > user administration capabilities and model configuration.
