OK, a 10 W OUTPUT diode laser would probably need at least 250 W input, 
as few
lasers ever exceed 4% efficiency. Keeping such a device from overheating 
is a
major challenge. The big diode-pumped solid-state lasers use either bars of
lasers with massive air cooling or liquid cooling. That's why these 
things are
so expensive.
