Maybe with Q-switched lasers or something, but not a CW diode.  You put 20 W
DC in and get 10 W of light?  Can you point me to a data sheet for such 
a device?

(Maybe I've been away from this sort of gear for too long, and there are 
real
developments, but I have my doubts.)

And, I've seen all sorts of impossible claims in Chinese laser blurbs, 
but they
are clearly lies.  Stuff like 5 V at 100 mA gives 1 W output!
