I've been following 3D printing for a while (I know from talking to them that
part of my graphics DNA is behind the scenes at "Shapeways", for instance) but,
for home use, I'm still waiting for something that I can use.

So while I wander past the rapidly increasing number of 3D printers at
SIGGRAPH, for instance, I currently can't find a use for one that I can afford
to have @home. Yes, I could get something sintered @shapeways, but I can
generally just fabricate the bits and silver solder them and turnaround is
quicker than Shapeways. For my wife, 1:87 scale modelling is ideal for the home
printed plastics, but the resolution is not there yet.

I keep looking, and was really impressed with the b9 creator - learnt something
today.

I know that sometime sooner rather than later, the scale will tip, and 3D
printers will become common place, like CNC machines are now becoming.

So, if you hear me, or someone else say "I have no use for a makerbot or rewrap
or .. " it's because, well, there's not a need. Sure, I can change hobbies and
create a need for a makerbot rp machine, but my wife and I have a couple of
hobbies that we enjoy, thank you!
