Hey.. lets not go bashing the 6.0.. I have one in an 03 Excurison and it has 219K miles and burns zero oil. :-) Still gets a combined 17 mpg in a 9000 lb truck with no trailer.. I pulled a big 10 ft tall x 8.5 ft wide 7000 lb cargo trailer, 1000 miles through the mountains recently and got 10 mpg (that is actually good) The key to 6.0 diesel durability is to remove the EGR cooler as it is the source of all troubles on the 6.0 (seriously). With that gone the engine is 10x more reliable. If the coolant goes a little low, the EGR cooler fails, the head gaskets fail, the fuel injectors fail, the main bearings are destroyed.. the engine is junk. I pulled mine off at 192K and should have done it years before. I replaced the HP oil pump at 192K - they last about 175K miles apparently. Still have the original injectors and the heads have never been off. IMO, the 7.3 DI engine is a better engine.. but gets worse MPG. I'd like to get a truck with the 6.7 but it has an awful lot of smog stuff on it that is bound to go horribly bad ($) down the road.
Speaking of diesels.. I thought that Ford was going to start importing those nice Ford Euro diesels into the US so we could buy a domestic car with a fuel sipping clean air diesel?? So far they are a no-show! What happened Andy??
