It's a product of the early electronic era, made for machines built to a certain level of precision and rigidity. G Code has its roots in the 1950's and the RS274D standard was finalized Feb. 1980. Like MIDI, G Code is old but has been tweaked and hacked to do things nobody thought of decades ago. A granite floor or counter top tile can be flat enough for a 3D printer build platform. Weight in the platform will be an advantage if your printer is a design where the head moves in Z instead of the bed. If you're thinking about using 15mm t slot extrusion, think harder about going with 40mm. Much stiffer than the 15mm size. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sponsored by Intel(R) XDK Develop, test and display web and hybrid apps with a single code base.
