Brian:

I haven't take Seb's RTAI-enabled kernel for a test drive yet, but if
he's using it with his mill then I'm sure he's not seeing anything like
the latency you report.

IMHO, blindly rebuilding is more likely to frustrate than illuminate.

Before I or anyone else can help diagnose the problem, we need to know a
lot more about the patient. What is "the machine"? Be specific to be
terrific. CPU/motherboard/BIOS/graphics/ethernet/yada yada yada. Also,
what ports are in use? What are the peripherals (especially if USB ports
are in use)?

Then there's the software environment. What OS (I assume Ubuntu Precise
12.04.3 but you know what they say about assume)? What kernel modules
are loaded? Have you started any daemons in addition those started in
the default OS setup? Any other programs in operation? Does 'top' show
any unexpected consumption of memory, CPU, I/O?

This list is probably overkill, but better to tell us too much than too
little.

Regards,
Kent

PS - There was a flurry of email exchanges some time ago about
developing a utility which would collect info and create a standard
report of the hardware/software environment to support diagnosis, but I
don't recall anyone fielding a script.
