Installed Xubuntu and ran through the guide. Step four threw some errors about bad permissions on key file, but next step worked just fine anyway. Rebooted and got rtai kernel directly, but couldn't start latency-test without sudo (not enough permissions for rtai module, que?!). Rebooted after new graphic drivers and no more sudo needed. Weird, but now working just fine.
