Could it be possible to use the server install of ubuntu 10.04 on an old pc? Because that way you only install the minimal components without the GUI. I've done it before with 8.04 to have the minimum components loaded, I used to load the GUI after that, but I think that an option would be to use keystick to not overload the old pc.
Is it possible to load keystick without Gnome or KDE installed?
