If your time is money. If you have more time than money, find a place that has a stock of surplus aluminum extrusion and bracketry and build the frame for less. I was going to use some surplus 40x40mm extrusion I got for $2.49 a foot to build a 3D printer frame. Then I found an impact testing device that likely cost a few kilobucks new - for $10. Still had a cracked sample of some laminate flooring clamped in it. It's all precision machined and very rigid. The way it's built provides a quite tall Z axis slide on two precision round bars and with a small bit of milling, drilling and tapping to existing parts I can mount the X and Y rails. I picked up 4 stepper motors for $20 as part of someone's failed attempt to build a CNC hot wire foam cutter and will be buying an electronics kit with everything (except power supply), including hot end and bowden style extruder for $159 off eBay. Regular price is $219 but deleting 4 of the 5 motors cuts the price. I already have a THK HSR30 rail and block for the table slide, got a HSR25 block for $20 - now I need a source for a cheap hunk of HSR25 rail, 13~14" long. I'm expecting the ball screws to cost the most.
