That 1 acre garden should pay off well, with CA out of water, groceries aren't headed any way but up in the coming years. I can see why you think your plate has enough on it. I'd darned near kill for an acre of Iowa's black loam to plant. I was born & raised there, nothing like it, except some land in MO exists that I have found in my travels from job to job over the last 65 years. All I have here is yellow clay gumbo thats darned near sterile, growing only weeds. Last garden I planted had 35 feet of woven wire holding up the peas, and another 35 feet holding up some half-runners. I got 1, 5 qt saucepan of peas and beans combined. 10 lb bag of seed taters gave maybe 5 lbs of marbles. A dozen hills of sweet corn grew one ear. I also learned that you can't plant cauliflower and broccoli together, both crossbred and didn't produce a usable, or even even identifiable veggie. Peppers worked, but only at 5% capacity, 1, maybe 2 per plant. And I had been tilling in kitchen waste & gypsum for 10 years then! Then my $800 rear tine tiller broke down about 3 years ago, jammed in gear, basic design flaw, they ALL do it, and I saved the tires and Honda motor & the tines in case someone needs them, the rest of it goes out to the landfill & recyclers in the next trailer load.
