My solution is to mount it on the back of the compound with a 70lb mag 
base. But that only works if the post is turned to get the locking tommy 
bar out of the way, or if I unscrew the bar. I've also been known to 
stick it to the rear mounted x motor, but its a long reach to the back 
of the workpiece from there. I don't have any indicators that are short 
enough to fit in a tool holder, not enough backaway room.  The 2" 
dialed, 1" travel plunger version is wwaaaaayyyyy to long.  Its also 
only a .001" dial.  And its mounting facilities were designed by the 
Marquis de Sade I think, very difficult to get it properly aligned.  
Needs a dovetailed back which would be 100x easier to use.

Changing chucks is a major PIMA, nothing in it can be called quick 
change. So I have a 5" 4 jaw on it that hasn't been moved since I 
installed it.  That mass cuts down on the chatter.
