My solution is to mount it on the back of the compound with a 70lb mag base. But that only works if the post is turned to get the locking tommy bar out of the way, or if I unscrew the bar. I've also been known to stick it to the rear mounted x motor, but its a long reach to the back of the workpiece from there. I don't have any indicators that are short enough to fit in a tool holder, not enough backaway room. The 2" dialed, 1" travel plunger version is wwaaaaayyyyy to long. Its also only a .001" dial. And its mounting facilities were designed by the Marquis de Sade I think, very difficult to get it properly aligned. Needs a dovetailed back which would be 100x easier to use. Changing chucks is a major PIMA, nothing in it can be called quick change. So I have a 5" 4 jaw on it that hasn't been moved since I installed it. That mass cuts down on the chatter. > On 5/16/2015 9:11 AM, Gene Heskett wrote: > > But I fear that my 4 jaw, independent, is not the chuck to use > > unless I want to trust the DRO, so I can mount the indicator on the > > cross slide, and back it out of the way of a passing jaw as I'm > > playing with the tensions for that final bit of eccentricity > > removal.
