I am not sure what, if anything, changed between the software
versions. I can try doing some archaeology.
Swapping hard-drives seems crazy.
If you want to risk it, you can simply mask the errors using the
parameters fault-inc, fault-dec and fault-lim for the sserial port.

man sserial for further details.

However, the default values for those parameters mean that you need to
be seeing errors more than 1 time in 10 consistently for the error to
trip.
