A 7i73 hanging on the 7i76 smart serial port is a good solution from the point of view of simplifying wiring if nothing else. I have one inside the apron of my lathe, to handle the MPGs and limit switches. It's a bit under-utilised in that role, but does make for a lot fewer wires running through the cable chain. But, don't forget that the 5i25 has a second 25-pin port for another 7i76 or any number of other options.
