Just for S&G, I ordered 2 of those 2NM 3 phase stepper-servo's yesterday.
That should get my lathes X above 100 ipm nicely.

Now, as I see it, the next hurdle is a MOD function that can follow the
spindle encoder, its 240 edges per rev. At a 1khz servo loop rate, that
would be practically limited to about 30 rpm, given a good quadrature
ratio, or 1/2 rps. Doable. 10 rpm would be relatively possible. But
from the new manual, it appears there's only 1 sentence in 900 pages on
the MOD function. Its not stated if int or fp but from the wording, I'd
guess its fp. Is there any other doc that goes into more detail?

It would be nice to do on my mill, but its spindle scale is either about
7xxx.xxx in high gear, or 14xxx.xxx in low, its a 1000 ppr on the back
of the motor so changes with the gear shift knobs tally switches. Hal
changes so the tach is still accurate in spindle rpms.

There I go, thinking out loud again. ;-)

If we desire respect for the law, we must first make the law respectable.
