I've had very good luck pulling all the chips and stirring them around in
a china coffee cup full of the stinky stuff called dip and rinse by one
brand, but there is a stronger solution in a black plastic bottle that
works even better. rinse them off well in running hot water and dry with
a hair dryer when they were bright again. I thought I had some in the
kitchen, but can't find it now. name is tarn-x or tarnex, something like
that IIRC. It doesn't keep well once opened so it may have been flushed.
We at one point had a digital video effects generator that spent the
first decade of its life in the Penny's tv commercial production
facility deep in NYC's polluted air, and all the chip legs were so
blackened you could chisel it off with a pocket knife, but this stuff
restored the chip legs to bright like new. Some of the sockets weren't
that great but I kept it running for another decade.
