Those here who have had to deal with a worn out ball screw. How is this normally manifested. I have a machine that is only showing backlash under load.
You might put an indicator between the ball and the table - check for mounting slop? If the ball-screw nut rotates, there has to be another bearing so it can push the table - no matter where the bearing - I would suspect the slop is there first.
Ok - I'm assuming this is a real ball-screw - there are only a couple of things to check with the ball-screw-nut - if the play is the same all along the shaft - the shaft is probably good - I have seen times were someone spilled the balls - didn't put them all back in - fails to circulate - bad things happen.. Then (probably a proper term that I don't know) the 'shell' (softer) is where I would expect to find the wear - the balls are hard.
If you can find the part number - most likely buying a replacement will be cheaper than getting it reworked.. but I'm betting on the bearing.
BTW - cleaning ball-screws - a bit of cotton cord to clean the threads .. removing the balls and disassembling requires a bit of time - but not hard - a bit slow and meditative - tweezers - tiny funnels. Obsessive cleanliness helps.
