I'm not certain, but I thought that the new tool planner had already been expanded to include all 6 linear axis in LinuxCNC, just not the rotary ABC axis. I know there was an experimental branch that did, and I thought it had been merged to master before 2.8, but I could be wrong. But I'm still running 2.7, mostly because I haven't gotten around to it.
