I'm running 2.8.1 with a 1.8kW AC Servo for the spindle via Step/Dir from a MESA 7i92H.
I can set the S to 0.5 for example but it will only start turning with the M3. Setting S to 0 appears to cause an internal equivalent to M5. If S was set to 0 then the M3 again doesn't work. So for example: S1 M3 starts spindle turning. S0 and the spindle stops. S1 and the spindle does not restart so again and S0 appears to create an implicit M5.
