Just to murk things up, here is the result of some testing I did this morning -- evidently I have too much time on my hands.
If I close the progress window, it stays closed during scheduled checks while I'm in Entourage. If it is open but behind the main window, it stays behind the main window during scheduled checks. If it is open but behind the main window, it comes to the front during manual checks. It stays behind during scheduled checks. If I close the Progress window and I minimize the Main window, it stays closed. If I Hide Entourage, well, I have no idea what happens because it's hidden. ;-) Now, here is what threw me originally. If I CLOSE the main window and close the Progress window, the Progress window will pop up unbidden on either manual or scheduled checks. It doesn't matter if I stay in Entourage or go to another app. When the check is complete, it closes again. Like I said originally, this is a minor point. I usually HIDE Entourage, so it's a non-issue when I do. But sometimes when in a hurry, I Cmd-W instead of Cmd-H (since that's a 16+ year-old, deeply ingrained key-combo for making windows go away) and under that circumstance, I get this materializing Progress window. It can occasionally get in the way when I'm viewing multiple windows side by side and Entourage happens to be in the right place in the layer.
