What you're describing here might be fixable by a Typical Rebuild, which
does indeed fix messages scurrying out of order and such-like. It's most
definitely worth a try, without rushing to an Advanced. And Typical rebuilds
are "harmless" - nothing whatsoever will be amiss. All links are maintained,
cached news and IMAP messages left as they are, etc. MLM never runs twice on
the same messages in the Inbox (to avoid perpetual loops), but should work
fine on future messages. And Typical Rebuild will give you your best
indicator, as you're asking. of whether an Advanced is needed. If it doesn't
fix things, you need to do the Advanced. Even the Advanced is pretty easy to
take compared to a Complex rebuild back in OE. It really doesn't mess around
with things all that much anymore. You'll basically just lose your links and
will have to re-download IMAP messages if you want to re-read them which is
no big deal. (mark the others as read.) It no longer puts your regular Rules
or the folders they're set to out of commission, nor interfere with your
Groups, or anything like that.

Time to get started...
