Well, before we get too carried away... There is a known bug where the
message list does not correctly update when messages are added to the list
when it is not scrolled all the way to the top.  It's basically a cosmetic
thing.  Closing and re-opening the main window should clear it up if this is
what it truly is.  Otherwise, a rebuild as Paul suggested is in order.
