Paul, Allen: Don't worry, I get what both of you are saying ;) And Allen, I agree that maybe what needs changing is the text on the QuickFilter -- I see people all the time trying to do what I'm describing, and received a number of emails off-list agreeing with my criticism of it. Perhaps "Recipient name" instead of "To" (some might say that's parsing words, but I think this thread has clearly shown that they are different and easy to misunderstand).
That said, here's a question (and I'm asking because I'm really curious) -- Paul said that the QuickFilter searches by "looking in the columns, not the database." But how does the information get into the columns? As I understand it, Entourage has to look in the database to get the info for those columns. Doesn't this happen when you first view the folder -- Entourage looks at the database to get the data in the column fields (perhaps it first checks to see which columns are displayed)? If this is true, it would seem rather trivial to gather email address data at the same time, and add a QuickFilter for email address (or allow the "To" and "From" to include email addresses). If this would truly slow things down, perhaps it could be an option in the preferences: "Include email addresses in To/From QuickFilter." Where it appears I disagree with you both on this topic is when you say that the ability to QuickFilter by email address is asking for something it wasn't designed to do. It seems to me that the QuickFilter was designed to allow the user to "quickly" filter messages by the most common fields: To, From, Subject, Category. Clearly, many users would consider the email address to be included in "To," and, as I mentioned in my previous message, there are many times when users would *prefer* to use email address rather than Name. Perhaps this "can't" be done currently; I accept that and appreciate the explanations why. However, I think that it is something that *should* be done in a future update. It appears to me to be a logical improvement that would greatly increase the utility of the QuickFilter, and therefore be a great feature to have in the future. -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
