Trying to help someone with a problem on the computer from afar is quite a
difficult process. There have been many times where I have had to spend a
long time conversing with someone without much luck, until the person with
the problem says something that really identifies the problem. Other times
it is impossible. As people have done here, they offer suggestions. They may
not work as they can't see what is actually wrong with your computer. They
are relying on you to give them information that will help them help you.
This is not to say you are at fault, neither are they. It's just a problem
with communication.

Diane may still not be able to help from afar. You may actually need someone
to see your computer. It may be just a simple fix. It could also be a
hardware failure. Someone at an Apple Service Centre in Canberra can
probably check the hardware to see if something is wrong.

If I was living in Canberra I would offer to have a look at it, and then
either fix it or give advice on what is needed. I am in Sydney don't really
have the time to drive there.
