This is quite true. Nevertheless, I've noticed on many Excahnge servers
that open relay was off (which is good IMHO) but they had also turned
off the possibility to send mail if the from field didn't match their
domain. Even worse, they had subdomains and the shut off any mail with
their domain instead of the subdomain in the From field
(eg [EMAIL PROTECTED] is OK but [EMAIL PROTECTED] , which point to the
same account is not).
I'd suggest tryinmg again making sure the address has the full server
addres in it.
This is also often related to authentication. The e-mail address in the
from field is used to authenticate on the SMTP and it really needs the
full domain.
This issue is so painful, that I decided long ago to configure Sendmail
on my Mac (port 25 is open on our network).
