Hi Ken ! Welcome in the EOS world :)

About a 50mm Macro the EF is probably not the better solution ! The lens
alone don't offer the 1:1. You must buy an accessory for having 1:1.

You can buy the Sigma AF 50mm f/2,8 EX Macro, which alow 1:1 with nothing
else than the glass...

But if you want also a 100mm Macro, buy the EF 100mm f/2,8 Macro USM, and
buy the 50mm f/1,4 !

2 macro lens are probably too much overlap but the 50 1,4 can be a great
solution for available light photography !

Nothing to say about the 28-70 2,8L & 80-200 2,8L they are great performers
! :)
