Hi all,
I've the oportunity to choose a lens from Sigma and I'm looking at their
wide angles.
I tried a friend's 15-30 last week and it looked quite good although it
was Minolta mount so I couldn't try it on my EOS. He is very
enthusiastic about it but I read many comments on the 'net that it's
quite soft at the edges.
Then I went to see in Photodo and the best sigma wide in numbers is 24mm
(rating 4) but it's not that wide. Then there's the 20f/1.8 DG EX and
the 17-35.
What are your hands-on experiences? I've already a 16mm fisheye
(Zenitar) and the next lens on the line is the 28-135IS. The zooms
really catch my attention, specially because they allow to frame much
better (very important in wide, when it's actually helpful to eliminate
annoying elements in the picture).
If you say that the 20f/1.8 is actually 10x better than the 17-35 in its
whole range, then I'd consider it first choice. In other words, I'm
looking for the best compromise flexibility/quality. Money has a limit
as well, but I think the offer covers most of the wide lenses from I the
prices I've seen.
Please notice that the offer I've is about a Sigma lens, and although I
like Canon lenses, they're out of the "picture" so there's no point
about raving on them. (yes, if I could I'd get a 16-35L ;-)
Greetings,
Gerard.
