Hello, thought it about time I introduced myself. I joined this list last
week. My name is Steve Parrott in Tennessee. Photography has been a long
time hobby of mine, and it is nice to find a list where I hopefully can get
some non biased answers.

I have never owned a Canon camera, been using Minolta SLR X700 film camera
and Nikon Coolpix 990 digital. The Canon EOS D60 has about got me sold on
making the step (or is that LEAP... lol) to an SLR digital. My Nikon takes
some great photos, but my biggest complaint with it is the very limited low
light abilities with it. Actually, I should say, it is nearly impossible to
HAND HOLD the Nikon in dim light and not get a blurred picture. There is
just not enough apature in the lens or ISO capability to avoid having a LOW
shutter speed setting for dim light. A tripod solves the camera movement,
but any subject movement of course causes blur.

I've read all the reviews I can find on the D60 and like what I read.
Relatively low noise even at ISO speeds of 1000, and with the right lens, I
should be able to hand hold in many situations.

The lens choice is my problem. I have basically narrowed it down to two
Cannon lenses.
The 28 - 135 F3.5 - 5.6 IS lens, and the 28 - 70 2.8 L lens.

I would like the zoom of the 28 - 135 plus the image stabilazation should be
of help, but I also have to deal with a smaller maximum apature.

On the other hand, the L 28 - 70 has the fast 2.8, but less zoom... and of
course....EXPENSIVE.

I guess what I would like to know is: Is the L series lens REALLY worth
that much extra money to an amateur like myself? Would I really see that
much of a picture improvement over the 28 - 135 IS lens? At this point in
time, I cannot print over 8 x 10 on my Epson Photo 780, though I sometimes
order larger prints from O Photo and the likes.

Anyone here that might happen to have BOTH these lenses that has made a real
comparison between the two? I know the D60 camera is still in somewhat
limited supply, but the lens issue should be a known entity, regardless of
camera.

Thanks for any help.
Sincerely,
Steve
