No disagreement that manual focus control is nice to have even on an AF
lens, but how often do MOST of us use it these days ? That is the rationale
I was using, i.e. why put the control of a zoom lens most likely used today
in a location that was determined in the good o'days of having only manual
focus control ?

We've learned to take advantage of many technical marvels over the past
couple of decades, look at the EOS line of equipment ! If my theory of the
zoom/focus ring location is right as Mr. Bill also seems to think so, then
why couldn't Canon change it and the rest of us photographers accept it as a
more convenient way of using a zoom lens ?

I actually had to learn how to use an abacus many years ago, but I use
calculator and even (gasp) computers now.... I guess I will do the math by
hand if I had to, but I need to find a piece of paper and pen first.....

Regards,

Ken
