DITTO.....

Melanie (Mel) and I did our home work. We looked high and low for a "sound" airworthy beast and found one. The log books went back to the beginning both airframe and engine. It has been taken apart and rebuilt. NO corrosion! We brought it on line in McKinney. Then, when the first annual came along, BOY did we find a legacy of problems. None major.... just a total pain in the ain....

The Prop had been damaged and not logged. The ELT was not completely installed correctly, The Mags were not speck and not logged. The Alternator was not spec and not logged. The carb was not speck and had to be rebuilt. All these things on the surface looking okay until you start checking model numbers, conversion specifications, upgrade details..... Then you find the sins of years gone by.

It is in fine shape now. N2590H has out lived all but one of the previous owners and all but one of the previous A&P sign-off mechanics.

We've put about 10,000 into it since we purchased it. It is still a very good investment with regard to what we use it for and against the cost of new technology in new airplanes.

Suggestion..... DO YOUR HOME WORK..... LEARN, READ, TALK, and PAY for a good inspection. You don't need to insult the seller when you find needed repairs, just negotiate and move on..... NONE OF THEM ARE NEW....

very respectfully....

Percy explains it perfectly.
I have had to spend some time and money on the 415C I bought 5 months ago, so
yes, it is a kind of on going "project".
However, in that time I have logged more than 25 hours of dual time, and more than 10 hours solo, and I am planning to do my sport pilot check ride by mid
January.
A brand new sport plane costs like a minumum of $ 70,000 (which I can't
afford), so I am still well ahead and have no regrets whatsoever.

They are, Derick, very old airplanes. Even the "airworthy" ones are a
project. Especially since so many mechanics do not know their
idosyncrocities.

Just a general comment,
Someone has been looking for an Ercoupe to buy and has evidently run
into many that may be not airworthy-see comments below. As someone who is close to making a purchase, I was disappointed to hear this as I'm sure many
others were. Have others had this same experience?

A buyers experience...
"....as I was told I ought to expect in the first place--that a lot of
Ercoupes are not worth having, at least not unless someone is willing to
take on what amounts to (even if not advertised as) a project."
